Inspiration
Our inspiration came from the need to simplify and streamline the passenger arrival flow at the Queen Beatrix International Airport in Aruba. During our discussions with Aruba, we identified a pain point at the intersection of the ED card form and passport data. We saw how mismatches between these two critical pieces of information could lead to delays on the passenger arrival flow, and potential passenger frustration. Understanding the power of digital identity and how it could not only solve this issue but also enhance other aspects of the travel experience, we were inspired to develop a comprehensive solution.
What it does
NeoKe aims to revolutionize travel by digitizing the entire travel experience, from airport arrival to hotel check-in. The process involves three main steps:
- Onboarding
- ED card login
- Hotel booking and remote check-in
During the onboarding phase, we digitalize the user's passport with Veriff and transform it into a verifiable credential. The passport credential is then used to log in to the ED card website, pre-fills the information of the form to streamline the process and issues the ED card or verified traveller credential. Then, the ED card credential is used on a hotel booking site to pre-fill guest information and facilitate remote check-in. This reduces the amount of information a user needs to fill out, potentially improving booking conversion rates and enhancing the overall travel experience.
How we built it
We built NeoKe on top of Microsoft ENTRA Verified ID. We used Veriff to complete the Know Your Customer process. We then generate Verifiable Credentials (VC) and Verifiable Presentations (VP) based on OpenID standard, which were used to exchange information between the user and Aruba ED card and hotels. We designed our system to be user-friendly, ensuring that the process of onboarding, logging in to the ED card, and booking a hotel is straightforward and efficient.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we encountered was time constrains.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have developed a solution that not only addresses a specific problem at the Queen Beatrix International Airport but also has the potential to revolutionize the broader travel experience. We have successfully digitized passport information, streamlined a mock of the ED card login process, and facilitated easier hotel bookings.
What we learned
One of the most valuable lessons we learned from this project is the incredible progress that can be achieved in a short period of time with a dedicated and collaborative team.
What's next for NeoKe
Our next steps will be to look for a collaboration with Aruba to scale this prof of concept into real life.
