The problem our project solves In the Corona virus context, the transportation sector suffered a big decline due to lockdown measures imposed by many of the EU countries. In the same time the urban transport of goods had increased significantly to cope with the new situation. In order to survive companies implemented ad hoc delivery solutions at high cost and low efficiency. Existing companies are struggling to cover the new demand created and often both delivery time and price increased. This situation opened the window for new opportunities and new business models that address these issues and out of the box solutions are a must.
The solution we bring to the table Neo.Delivery is the urban public transportation for package delivery. Neo.Delivery is built as a multi-point peer-to-peer delivery system. Anybody in the city can ask for a package pickup, anybody can respond to a pickup and anybody can receive a package, all with a fair price. Our solutions are focused on small businesses and regular people that want to send one or multiple small packages to various destinations across the city. When asking for a transport, active users (usually small businesses) need to specify the drop-off location for their goods and the relative size. For the people delivering the goods, we have built a solid driver mobile application that automatically reroutes the drivers based on new pickup and destination requests, creating stops along the way live and continuously. Being a driver for Neo.Delivery is as easy as flicking and ON/OFF switch, the system does the rest.
What we have done during the weekend We have put together the ordering dashboard and a basic simulator for the service in the form of 2 webapps. We have given you access to our platform so you can check it out.
The solution’s impact to the crisis Neo.Delivery will offer companies a new urban delivery option for parcels/goods/products at reasonable price (around 0.25 EUR/Km/parcel) and within a 2-hour interval. The end consumers will get whatever they ordered from local companies (urban area) on time and at the right price. The new public transport for goods will help people to get over this crisis by allowing them to experience a lifestyle close to the one before: eating habits, goods supply, etc.
The necessities in order to continue the project We intend to launch the product as soon as possible, as the need for such a service is critical for local businesses to survive in this period. We will be using rideshare drivers that are now available as demand for such services decreased by up to 95%. Our biggest needs are in terms of sales and operations, in managing the logistics workflow.
The value of our solution(s) after the crisis The economy will change and the market for deliveries will remain at an inflated level even after the lockdown. However all the express local delivery solutions were focused on niches (food), delivered high-margin products and came at a high price point. What we are building here is essentially a service that works in a completely different manner than existing services (eg Glovo) and that allows us to offer a very low price point by scale. This means that it can become efficient to send even cheap or low-margin products via delivery and allow for a certain level of social distancing to persist whenever needed, while supporting businesses and human necessities and comforts.
