Inspired by the rich cultural heritage, traditions, and unique linguistic nuances of Mizoram, Nelson Mizo AI was built to bridge the gap between advanced artificial intelligence and the Mizo community. While mainstream AI models often struggle with local contexts, idioms, and regional accuracy, this project was created to provide a localized, accurate, and culturally resonant AI assistant.

What it does

Nelson Mizo AI acts as an intelligent companion tailored for Mizo speakers. It handles natural language conversations, answers cultural and everyday queries with precision, translates Mizo text into English or other languages seamlessly, and features an intuitive settings and custom prompt system designed for ease of use.

How we built it

Built using modern web technologies (React, TypeScript) combined with the Gemini API backend. We implemented robust prompt engineering techniques and contextual alignment to ensure that the AI respects local nuances, historical references, and regional expressions accurately.

Challenges we ran into

One of the major challenges was aligning global AI models to deeply understand and accurately reflect localized Mizo cultural signifiers without defaulting to generic global tropes. We also optimized the app's performance and responsiveness to ensure a smooth user experience across devices.

What we learned

We gained deep insights into localized prompt engineering, API integrations, and how to tailor broad-spectrum AI technology to serve specific regional and cultural communities effectively.
