Inspiration

I love cats and wanted to create a simple way to save the small moments we have with them. Photos often get buried in the camera roll, so I wanted to turn them into something more fun and collectible. That idea became nekori — an app where cat photos become digital stickers that users can collect in a virtual jar.

What it does

With nekori, users can take or upload a photo of their own cat or a cat they meet, turn it into a digital sticker, and add it to their collection. The goal is to make collecting memories with cats feel playful, almost like building a personal cat sticker collection.

How I built it

I built nekori with Flutter and Dart for iOS. For monetization, I integrated RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements and monthly and yearly subscription plans. RevenueCat made it much easier to connect the subscription experience in the app with App Store purchases.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was creating a monetization flow that didn't interrupt the simple and playful experience of collecting stickers. I also learned a lot about configuring subscriptions across App Store Connect and RevenueCat, testing purchases, and handling subscription entitlements correctly.

What I learned

Building nekori taught me that monetization is not just about adding a paywall. It needs to feel like a natural part of the product experience. I also gained a much better understanding of subscription infrastructure and how RevenueCat can simplify managing subscriptions across an app.
