Inspiration
As we see how Corona Virus unfolded and affected everyone's lifestyle. With nothing much to do and living under continuous quarantine, people faced hardships in even accomplishing daily chores. This is provided us with the idea of implementing a society made up of close-knit people like your neighbors. In this online platform, we planned to provide a way in which people can make their day-to-day requests and get them done by people around you.
What it does
It is a platform that not only joins people but acts as a way to help the people who require assistance during the difficult times of COVID-19. It also provides a way through which people can host events online providing a way to kill boredom.
How I built it
We used node.js for the back end for implementing our requests on a web application. For the front end, we used bootstrap and CSS to make our web application more interactive and easy to use.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was to implement a wide variety of features in 24 hours. Although we tried our best, the time constraint didn't allow us to accomplish everything that we wanted.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud that we were able to launch our website using domain.com with the feature of posting requests online.
What I learned
I learned about the technicalities that we had to go through while building this web application.
What's next for Neko Neighbours
We plan to add more sections to our web application. One of the sections would be a chatroom/blog where people discuss ideas to get rid of boredom while staying at home during the quarantine. Because we are aiming for small close communities like neighbors, so it is also a good chance for people to learn more about people around them. We also plan to make a smartphone app as it would increase the accessibility of our project. We are planning to implement a special feature that shows the requests/ supports from a certain radius starting from the address of the users. In that case, people can limit their choices to what they can potentially and easily do.
