Inspiration

We were inspired by the huge mobilizing power of GPS-based augmented reality mobile games like Pokemon Go and Google's Ingress. We wondered how we could use this type of platform for good, and saw the potential of this type of gameplay in organizing community events and projects on a large scale.

What it does

Neighbrhud creates connections and fosters community development by packaging it with a game-like social media element. Users can easily find community projects near them, as well as connect with other like-minded individuals.

How we built it

We built Neighbrhud using the Figma prototype builder with the Mapbox platform

Challenges we ran into

We had two first time hackers on our team, so we had kind of a bumpy time getting off the ground as we were still learning the ropes and getting accustomed to the hackathon environment.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of building a prototype that successfully represents the experience we want to give our users. Additionally, we are very proud of all the skills we have learned and experience that we have gained along the way.

What we learned

First and foremost, we have learned so much about how hackathons are ran and organized, especially the two first-timers on our team. We have learned how to come up with viable ideas and solutions as well as build a functioning prototype. Overall, DivHacks this year has been a great learning experience, with lessons that we will definitely take into the future as hackers and as CS nerds in general.

What's next for Neighbrhud

We had a blast working through the whole process of brainstorming and building our prototype, so we would love to continue this project into the future, with the possibility of publishing a fully funcitonal version onto one of the major app stores.
