Inspiration
We all love to give back to the community. And what’s better than providing for the food bank, donating old clothes, or volunteering at a charity? Providing for the food bank, donating old clothes, and volunteering at a charity. So, we decided to bring these different services together into our website, Neighbours in Need.
What it does
Neighbours in Need allows users to list their own personal service of any size. Whatever kind of service you can think of, you can provide. Then, other users are able to see these listed services and select which services they need. With Neighbours in Need, users are now able to access a one-size fits all website for a wide spectrum of services.
How we built it
We built it using React and Mongo as our database. We worked through the front-end and back-end together and used multiple APIs to create the features we needed.
Challenges we ran into
We found some trouble with merging but were eventually able to figure it out. Also, we got off to somewhat of a slow start in the beginning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really happy that we were able to put a finished project out. Initially, we were off to a slower start and couldn't really see an end in sight for the project. However, we did end up having a near-finished project and that was great for us.
What we learned
We learned that even if there seems like we won't be able to finish the project, we should keep working to complete it, as we may just be closer than we thought. We also learned a lot about what we built Neighbours in Need with, such as mongodb and firebase.
What's next for Neighbours in Need
Next for Neighbours in Need is going live, and also improving front-end design and including a messaging feature between users.
