NeighbourHelp

Inspiration

As cities grow, people live closer but are less connected with their neighbours. I believe this app can bridge this gap, and help people to form supportive relationships in their community. After the pandemic, many people have experienced increased isolation. This highlights the need for increased support networks. For some people who require help with small tasks, NeighbourHelp make sit convenient to find support without relying on other services. This app can also help to integrate newcomers into the community.

What it does

Requesters can post information about a certain service that they require (dog walking, lawn mowing, babysitter) along with their name and phone number. Applicants can see the available postings and choose one and decide to contact the requester. After the service has been completed, requesters can mark a service complete.

How we built it

I used python to create this program. It is a simple console program that uses classes, functions and loops.

Challenges we ran into

As I am a beginner in coding, there is still many topics that are unknown to me. I was unaware of the topic of classes and i am still learning about it. With this project, I was able to get hands-on experience in using classes and functions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of the idea of NeighbourHelp. Although the project is lacking in some ways, I plan on learning more and adding more functions to the program.

What we learned

I learnt more about python than I did in my classes. I was able to understand how classes worked, different loops and functions I used in this program.

What's next for NeighbourHelp

I plan on making an app for NeighbourHelp after learning in depth about frameworks, APIs, UIs.
