Inspiration

Neighbor watch was inspired by the idea of connection and safety. For years you were able to connect your friends and family via websites and apps, why not do this to others, in this case neighbors.

What it does

Our app connects the neighborhood together to one place to allow uses to send messages to one another, send reminders, or alert others of emergencies.

How we built it

We built this app using MIT App inventor, it is a block based coding program online that allows users to create applications for android devices.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into multiple challenges while creating and designing our app. One of our biggest problems was the ability to send SMS messages, we were unsure if it was our coding or our devices not being connected to a service.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were proud of making 1st place in our school wide app competition and possibly having the ability to help others around the world.

What we learned

We learned it is very difficult building an app from the ground up, we used no templates while creating it. We learned how to pace our time correctly and efficiently. We also learned a lot about team work and learning to compromise.

What's next for NeighborWatch

The next thing for our app would be to test it out on a small neighborhood to see how it works in reality. Once we test it out on a small scale we could try to release to the public to see how successful it is. Taking constructive criticism would also be good to see how we could advance our app.
