Description
A Rails app that lets users explore New York City neighborhoods they may want to move to.
Background
Wanted to make a Rails app that lets users explore New York City neighborhoods they may want to move to, or even just explore.
This web app was built with two other team members.
Features
- Integrated Yelp Search API to search for popular local bars and restaurants for each neighborhood
- Embedded Google Maps using their Directions API and Geocoder API to find the directions from the location of the neighborhood to an address the user inputs (such as work address)
- Incorporated the Twitter API to receive the most recent live tweets for a given neighborhood
- Retrieved sales information for the area using NY Times API and rentals using Nokogiri to scrape from the Street Easy website
- Utilized JavaScript, jQuery, and AJAX to provide a dynamic, single page experience
- Implemented Facebook Authentication with OmniAuth for user sign-in process
- Created an algorithm that generates recommended neighborhoods in a similar price range
