Need a Hand

Inspiration

The inspiration for this project stemmed from Uber's model, which enables anyone in the community to become a driver and seamlessly connects nearby individuals with these drivers.

What it does

On the Need a Hand platform, only self-employed trade workers have the opportunity to showcase their skills. Community members can easily access the platform to find and connect with these skilled individuals, seeking their assistance with household repairs and projects.

How we built it

After logging in, the user is prompted to provide information such as their name, location, a description of their trade, and their certification status. Once the user presses the "submit" button, the inputted data is saved to a Scrapi database. All the inputs in the Scrapi database are viewable to everyone in the community.

Challenges we ran into

One of the challenges I encountered involved the Scrapi database. The challenge stemmed from my limited familiarity with the database and the process of writing entries into it. Another obstacle I encountered was developing the authentication system and enabling users to sign in using their Google accounts.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite my initial limited knowledge in UI/UX design and working with the Scrapi database, I am delighted with the outcome. Looking at the final application, I am particularly proud of successfully figuring out the database integrations.

What we learned

Through this hackathon, I gained valuable insights into the Scrapi database and acquired practical experience in successfully implementing user authentication systems. The event provided me with a deeper understanding of these technologies and their application in real-world projects.

What's next for Need a Hand

To enhance Need a Hand, a potential improvement could involve incorporating a chat feature that facilitates seamless communication between users within the application. This addition would enable individuals to connect and interact with each other more effectively. In addition to the chat feature, I would like to integrate a comprehensive rating and feedback system within the application. This system would empower users to provide valuable feedback and rate the individuals they interact with.
