Inspiration
I started lifting and needed a simple way to eat enough, consistently, without turning meals into homework. Most apps make you set up a whole system before you can log anything. I wanted two things:
- fast entry so I don’t lose momentum
- clear daily targets so I always know the next move.
That’s why I built Nektar Nutrition: quick meal building, instant totals, and a clean target you can actually follow.
What it does
- Pro onboarding to make the perfect Plan for you (meals, macros, calories)
- Dead simple "What to eat Today" view
- Recipe creator
- Meal Planning
- Weight tracking
How we built it
I built it using SwiftUI, ALL VIBESS Tools I used : Warp my terminal, claude code with Figma MCP to add the UIs, Codex for more complex hard tasks, Supabase as Back, A looooot of iterations and love.
Challenges we ran into
Technical ones : Backend, but supabase solved most of the issues for now Distribution : I was too focused on building and trying to figure out how I can do this as a designer with 0 code knowledge, but the big beast is actually Distribution, and Now this is my full focus.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Shipping this is my first app in ios, I'am very proud of that The UI and interactivity level I was able to reach using AI tools is good, I like it.
What we learned
I learned that I need to start coding lol. it was a lot of things, started understanding some Swift code while debugging, started knowing patterns, AI assisted coding now I'am sure I can ship things, And I can evaluate a feature before building it, before I was more like "Let's see if I can build this". I'am now more confident about my workflows, and which ones I should use in which scenario.
What's next for Nectar Nutrition
I found out that the big problem I'm trying to solve for GYM Beginners or people starting to eat better, is the need to see what someone like them with the same context, same weight, height, eats and how that is helping them.. so I'm adding a social layers not a complex one, think of it like this :
James opens Nectar, after the onboarding we match him with plans (this time it's not AI generated) but it's a plan by Brian and James can just duplicate that weekly plan and try it for a week. this way we can create some sort of network effect with people sharing / duplicating meal plans.
