Inspiration

We were inspired by Evgeny Kuzyakov's dapp BerryClub. We found it very interesting and later realised that this small website was the backbone of the NEAR blockchain we use today. So... We decided to use this idea to create something unique at Nearcon 2022 and potentially bring back some new users and get the nostalgia going for the NEAR OGs.

What it does

Back in the day, when Near was only in its beginnings, one of the only things you could do on-chain was to play Berry Club. Chat groups were created, snapshot jpgs (not NFTs since they didn't exist back in the day) were being sold, and communities would hang around just to place pixels through Bananas and Avocados on Near. We wanted to "upgrade" this old dapp with new ideas and immortalize it in the NEAR Community forever. The premise of the project is to create the best possible memory a member could have of the event by making the community come together and make a 1 of 1 NFT in a way that was part of the OG culture. The NFT would be auctioned and the proceeds of the auction will go to support Ukraine!

How we built it

We used some features from the first game, but now only persons who have the near event nft can actually color a pixel. For that, you have to connect your wallet and all the job will be done by the smart contract that will check if you have the nft or not. After the event is over the resultant canvas will be converted to hexadecimal and it will be uploaded to ipfs, to then do the auction.

Challenges we ran into

Creating an auction in mintbase, checking whether the person is participating in the event and how to effectively control the number of pixels a single person can paint.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Since our project is all about the community we are proud of how we handled the situation by asking the people what they want! And coming as a team to make this project as good as we could!

What we learned

We learned about the minting process on mintbase, but mostly about how having a cultural aspect brings the community together, therefore making it stronger.

What's next for Lennon Wall

Our end goal is getting Lennon Wall to future Near events and making it a bit of a tradition that those members will cherish! And of course to mint the most memorable NFT!
