Inspiration

The inspiration started from a conversation on farmer's markets and ways we can improve the farmer's market. This led to the idea to create a web app that can help the local community and showcase businesses virtually.

What it does

Nearbuy is a web app that allows the customer to input their location to view the local businesses present in the vicinity and the products they sell. The consumer can also purchase off of the website by navigating through the pins on the map for the business or by the product they are looking for.

How we built it

We created an intuitive user interface using React.js. To allow users to visually see all the local markets, we embedded an interactive map. API calls to Checkbook.io were used to generate an invoice directly sent to the user's email.

Challenges we ran into

One of the challenges our team faced was creating a good working dynamic quickly because we all met at the hackathon and we needed to get to know each other. Another challenge was learning new tools like Convex and Checkbook.io.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team, we are proud of each other's mini-wins like figuring out what was wrong with our code or ways to improve our application. For 3 of our members, this is their first hackathon. We're happy to submit a project that we enjoyed building and working on together to make the idea into a web app.

What we learned

Since we were using new tools like Convex and Checkbook.io, some of the team members had the opportunity to learn these new tools and how they can be used for our project.

What's next for nearbuy

Nearbuy's next steps include creating an option to create a filter map that lets the user map by type of products and create an intuitive client-side access interface for the business. Another idea for nearbuy is to add a routing recommendation algorithm that shows customers the shortest route to pickup all the products they have purchased in one trip.
