Inspiration

NearBTCForge was inspired by the idea of breaking down barriers between the Ethereum and Bitcoin ecosystems. With unique assets like Ethereum NFTs and Bitcoin Ordinals existing in separate silos, I saw a potential for connecting these communities. Leveraging NEAR's multi-chain capabilities, I set out to create a solution that would allow users to trade assets seamlessly across chains.

What it does

NearBTCForge enables secure, trustless cross-chain swaps between Ethereum NFTs and Bitcoin Ordinals. Using NEAR’s multi-chain abstraction, it lets users create, accept, and finalize asset swap orders without needing intermediaries. This makes cross-chain trading easier, more efficient, and decentralized.

How we built it

The app was built using NEAR’s near-api-js and wallet selector libraries to handle transactions. We used JavaScript frameworks and NEAR's cross-chain capabilities to securely manage asset swaps. NEAR's decentralized tools enabled us to implement features for securely verifying user signatures and ensuring smooth communication between Ethereum and Bitcoin ecosystems.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring smooth cross-chain interactions. Managing dependency conflicts and implementing wallet functionality across chains required a lot of debugging. Additionally, handling the technical aspects of signing mechanisms and integrating NEAR’s tools to work harmoniously with Ethereum and Bitcoin presented unique difficulties.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully building a trustless, cross-chain trading app between Ethereum and Bitcoin assets was an incredible achievement. Overcoming technical hurdles and creating a functional, user-friendly interface was a great milestone. I’m proud of NearBTCForge’s potential to foster a more connected, cross-chain asset environment.

What we learned

This project gave me a deep understanding of NEAR’s cross-chain tools and chain abstraction capabilities. I gained experience in handling complex, multi-chain transactions and learned a lot about how to navigate dependency conflicts and manage cross-chain data securely.

What's next for NearBtcForge

NearBTCForge has a lot of potential for future growth. I’d love to expand it to support more chains and introduce additional asset types. Enhancing user experience with features like automatic asset pricing and incorporating more NEAR-powered features are also on the roadmap.
