Inspiration

Rescue workers working in disaster areas may cause further damage if they don't have the required training or equipment. This is specially seen with families trying to rescue each other in time sensitive situations. For example people trying to save others trapped under a debris during earthquakes. We hope to make that process a little safer.

We also want to make it little easier to find proper exits and escapes in disaster situations.

What it does

It helps a registered person or pet by tracking how close they are using a bluetooth proximity sensor.

How we built it

We developed an android app which communicates with the beacons via bluetooth.

Whenever a pet\person is out of the proximity of the beacon, an alarm rings and a notification is sent to the app user who is tracking the person\pet.

Challenges we ran into

Finding suitable hardware and use cases for building the application. Time constraints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to come up with a working prototype of our idea. We believe technology and specifically IOT can be leveraged in disaster situations to a huge extent and hence we wanted to use IOT. There are a number of high end IoTs that can also be integrated without application, thus making the application forward compliant.

What we learned

We learned about great new ideas that we could incorporate into our application after talking to professionals here. We also learned how to cooperate and work in a team.

What's next for Nearables

Extending this to incorporate Beacons with more capability and features. Fine tuning current application for efficiency.
