Inspiration: When planning where to eat, my friends and I have always ran into trouble in finding and agreeing on a place that is near to our destination. This app will hopefully help people with similar issues in locating restaurants near to a destination.
What it does: The app takes in an address from user input and uses a MapQuest geocode API to find the longitude latitude and then use this data to find the nearest restaurants.
How we built it: We used android studio, MapQuest geocode API and Google Places API to build it.
Challenges we ran into: We ran into trouble extracting data from the APIs and adding a visual map to our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We are proud of successfully using two APIs as this was our first time using an API in a project.
What we learned: We learned how to use and modify API data and also how to make a user friendly UI on our app.
What's next for Near Me: In the future we hope to add more functionality in Near Me by implementing a map feature to see the different near by restaurants. We also hope to add navigation features and a social networking option to see friends recommendation.
