Inspiration
As seniors, we have done quizzes and searched for which college is the best fit for us. We wanted to provide something that students about to enter a similar position might enjoy.
What it does
The project walks the user through dates with different North Carolina college mascots. From the choices you make in conversation, the program rates your compatibility to that school and then will present you with your highest score at the end as well as any links.
How we built it
For the images, Photoshop was a very helpful tool. For the overall project, we used JavaFX in Netbeans to create our program. We began by setting a framework of each scene and then added the dialogue and then the choices and calculations for each choice.
Challenges we ran into
The largest challenge we ran into was adding music. This took up a large portion of our time and we eventually scrapped the idea. We also had a scare where we thought the entire program was deleted, because of a problem committing the changes to GitHub.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the difficulties, being able to bounce ideas off of each other when we ran into hiccups was an amazing resource. It may not show through in our program explicitly, but the way we helped each other with issues was something we are all very proud of.
What we learned
I think we learned to not take things so seriously. We came into the project with an idea that would have been good, but I doubt we would have had as much fun. And that goes back to a key idea for our project, with everything going on in our lives, it's important to take a breather and have a laugh.
What's next for NC College Speed Dating
We would like to add a more immersive experience. Music would likely be on the list and adding hyperlinks for the final resources. Both would require a shift out of Simple JavaFX though.
