Inspiration

Witnessing firsthand the critical moments during a loved one's surgical delivery and seeing a neighbor face an urgent need for a blood transfusion opened our eyes to a major system gap. Healthcare workers were struggling to find where blood was available, often dealing with fragmented information and uncertainty over where to source supplies in an emergency. This inspired us to build a modern, robust, and scalable digital blood management solution to eliminate information silos and ensure health systems can instantly track, locate, and distribute safe blood units when every second counts.

What it does

The NBTS Digital Blood Management Solution is a comprehensive cloud-powered platform designed to ensure end-to-end traceability and availability of safe blood units. Key features include:

  • Smart Inventory Control: Real-time visibility into blood stock levels across collection centers, blood banks, and hospitals.
  • QR Code Tracking Workflows: Fast, scan-based tracking for secure chain-of-custody management from donor to recipient.
  • Hospital Issuance Modules: Streamlined requisition and fulfillment workflows tailored for medical facilities.
  • Dashboard Analytics: Data-driven insights to monitor usage trends, prevent expiration wastage, and optimize resource allocation.

How we built it

We architected the system using a high-performance and flexible technology stack:

  • Backend & Database: Supabase for secure cloud database management, relational schemas, and real-time data synchronization.
  • Application Logic & Workflows: Google Apps Script and JavaScript to power custom serverless automations, backend processing, and rapid integration.
  • Traceability & Interface: Dynamic web application interfaces paired with automated QR code generation for seamless mobile and desktop usage.
