Inspiration

The inspiration for our project stemmed from a deep desire to enhance independent mobility for visually impaired individuals. While exploring assistive technologies, we noticed that traditional mobility aids like white canes and guide dogs have limitations in detecting obstacles at head level, such as low-hanging branches, poles, and overhangs. Existing solutions were either too expensive, bulky, or lacked real-time adaptability.

Our goal was to create an affordable, lightweight, and AI-driven solution that could seamlessly integrate into daily life, ensuring a safer and more confident walking experience.

What it does

The AI-Powered Smart Navigation Cap is a wearable device designed to transform the way visually impaired individuals navigate their environment. Here's a breakdown of its key functions:

Real-Time Obstacle Detection

  • AI-Powered Computer Vision: Utilizes advanced algorithms (e.g., YOLO, OpenCV) to analyze the surroundings and accurately detect obstacles.
  • Sensor Integration: Combines data from mini-cameras, LIDAR, and ultrasonic sensors to recognize objects at head-level and beyond, ensuring safe navigation.
