Project Story: Machine Learning Enhanced Pre-Screening for Streamlined Healthcare

About the Project

Mission:

Our mission is to make healthcare easier and faster for everyone by removing barriers to healthcare. We aim to assist both patients and medical care providers in creating optimal solutions at minimal cost and time.

Motivation:

Costly Doctor Appointments:

Doctor visits can be financially burdensome, often requiring multiple appointments. Our goal is to streamline this process, reducing both time and financial commitments for individuals.

Slow and Inefficient Healthcare Process:

The existing healthcare system is characterized by sluggish and inefficient processes. Our mission is to introduce efficiency and speed into this system, ensuring that healthcare is swift and responsive.

Barriers to Access:

A substantial portion of the population faces barriers to healthcare, including those with special needs. Our goal is to break down these barriers, making healthcare accessible to everyone, regardless of their circumstances.

Streamlining Processes:

We aim to streamline the healthcare journey, minimizing the time and effort required for both patients and medical care providers to achieve optimal outcomes.

Accurate Referrals:

Our platform seeks to provide accurate referrals to specialists and connect patients with the right doctors, enhancing the overall quality of care.

Addressing Social Anxiety:

Recognizing the rise in social anxiety and the challenges people face in approaching healthcare professionals, our solution aims to create a more comfortable and user-friendly environment for seeking medical assistance.

Doctor's appointments can be costly. Often you’ll have 3 or 4 doctor visits before your health concerns are properly addressed

How?

Developing an AI-Based Program:

AI-Powered Pre-Screening:

Our product employs AI to efficiently pre-screen individuals, as well as integrate data from smartphone health apps like Apple Health.

Personalized Recommendations:

Beyond data analysis, our system incorporates direct patient input for personalized and context-specific health solutions.

Supportive Framework:

We provide more than just recommendations; our program offers a supportive framework, guiding individuals through healthcare complexities.

User-Friendly Interface:

With an intuitive design, our program is accessible to users of all backgrounds and technological proficiencies.

Users:

Patients:

Tailored solutions are provided to patients, addressing their specific health concerns and streamlining their healthcare journey.

Medical Care Providers:

Healthcare professionals benefit from our program by receiving accurate pre-screening information, aiding in more informed and efficient patient care.

Pain Points:

  • Difficult to find the right doctor
  • Leads to additional costs
  • Wastes time through redundant visits
  • Misguided visits add unnecessary load on healthcare facilities like Urgent Care rooms, etc.
  • Most primary care visits end up with the doctor referring you to some more specialized doctor after some generic questions (can eliminate that step by delegating to AI)

Solutions:

  • Address health literacy by providing educational resources
  • Develop clear protocols for handling emergencies

Research:

Future Improvements:

  • Different healthcare systems in different countries
  • Security for the application, considering sensitive health information input
  • HIPAA laws/release of information
  • Assist in finding a Primary Care Physician (PCP).
  • Multiple Users
  • Communication Hub
  • Upload Documentation
  • Partner with Practitioners
  • Rating System
  • Accessibility
  • Calendar Integration
  • Heath App Integrations

Judging Criteria

Product Development Approach:

Did the team adequately define desired characteristics for targeted solutions? What process was taken to create and evaluate design alternatives and product concepts? How did the team decide on their final solution approach?

Prototype Quality:

Does the prototype demonstrate the feasibility of an idea or a significant component? Does the prototype meet or exceed the need of the challenge?

Originality of Concept/Solution:

Is the final solution original, unique, or otherwise authentic? WOW! factor of the solution approach?

Presentation Quality:

Did the team state the problem or opportunity they were addressing? Did the presentation follow an understandable flow? Did multiple team members participate in the presentation? Was there a clear closing statement for the presentation?

Significance/Impact:

Would the solution have a significant impact? Would the solution be applicable to a large number of users or the market? Should this solution approach be developed further?
