Santa Claus will let you know if you've been naughty or nice!

What it does

Santa Claus is making a list and checking it twice! Do you want to know if you are naughty or nice? "Alexa, ask Santa Claus if I'm naughty or nice" to find out!.

How I built it

The "Santa Claus" Alexa skill asks you a series of questions using a decision tree logic. The questions are designed to reinforce positive behavior while having fun with the voice-first experience of Alexa. For example, Santa Claus asks questions such as "Do you listen to your parents?" and "Have you hurt anyone's feelings this week?".

Depending upon the answer to a given question, the decision tree logic will ask a subsequent question that asks for more details, or goes to a new branch on the decision tree.

{ "node": 5, "message": "Do you listen to your parents?", "yes": 6, "no": 70 },

{ "node": 6, "message": "Have you hurt anyone's feelings?", "yes": 7, "no": 9 },

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

To make the skill more engaging, I experimented with using advanced SSML and taking advantage of Alexa's new features call interjections. For instance, if some says they do not believe in Santa Claus, the decision tree will terminate and the speech output will include a special interjection:

<say-as interpret-as='interjection'>bah humbug</say-as>

What's next for Naughty or Nice?

The next steps for Santa Claus is take advantage of the capabilities of the Echo Show by displaying a video of Santa Claus reading a list, checking it twice, and showing if they are naughty or nice.
