Inspiration

I first began with making the song, I was inspired by the song "Vitamin C" by the group Can. I loved how throughout the song the words "Hey you" are used in such a raw way to tell someone a message. So I started thinking about what message could be told to an audience rather than just one person. I am naturally an advocate for conservation and love nature and so I thought of how it could be the voice of nature telling humanity a message. I wanted a catchy pop-funk vibe, but to lean into a message of a warning. The message of nature warning us of how we have abused the deal we initially had with it of protecting and loving it resonated with me. Then I was inspired by the music I created to make the music video in a hand-drawn anime style of animation.

How I built it

I used Suno to make the song Then used Openart.ai, where I utilized image models such as seed dance, nanobanana, and flux, and then image-to-video models such as klingAI, Seeddream, Wan 2.1, 2.2, Hailuoai, and Midjourney.

Challenges I ran into

Openart initially had a learning curve, but I then started using the storyboard feature which helped, but I still needed to export the video out to Kapwing my editing tool, to put all the scenes together, sound effects and transitions, since Openart's editing tool was glitchy and not consistently effective. Also the constraint of 2 minutes was challenging as my song is almost 4 minutes.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The song took me about a month to get to a point where I was happy with the sound and lyrics. I created the visual for the music video in the span of two weeks, and in the end I am happy and proud of the result I got!

What I learned

I was able to use other video models I had not used before such as Seeddream, Hailuoai, flux, qwen and Wan and learn what the strengths of Openart were specifically focusing on music videos.

What's next for Nature Fights Back

Since I was limited to only two minutes, and the song is about 3 minutes and 38 seconds, I will eventually need to complete the rest of the visual and story to complete the song.
