Chess is naturally seen as a strategy game representative of a war between two opposing sides. We decided to twist the context of the game so that players wouldn't think of a game just between themselves - it's a war of the world. The game pieces subtly references the changes from a pastoral world to the modern industry.

What it does

This is a normal chess game with pieces personally designed by our team.

How I built it

Our team built chess pieces using Autodesk Fusion 360.

Challenges I ran into

Our team was completely new to 3D printing with no experience beforehand. Within the time limit of 36 hours, we persevered in a new environment to successfully manifest 6 out of 12 physical 3D chess piece prototypes we designed.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Learning to 3D print for the first time; navigating basic autodesk functions as a first time learner.

What's next for Nature and the City

This board game serves a learning catalyst for those new to pressing societal issues such as industrialization, environmental degradation and changing paradigms in wilderness ecology. It wills us to rethink our dualistic understanding of wilderness culture and calls into question how our perceived distinction of wilderness and human nature can have vast implications for society.
