Inspiration
Coming from an immigrant background, I have always faced common language barrier problems when chatting with family and friends back home. Connecting people by dissolving barriers such as language is the biggest inspiration I could have.
What it does
Native Chat allows for any two people to message one another, each in their own native language. Whether it's family, friends, or business, Native Chat has you covered with support for 135+ languages and dialects from all around the world. Native Chat also comes with all the great industry-standard messaging features and reliability you love in your favorite messaging apps.
How we built it
Native Chat is currently an iOS-only app built using React Native, Stream.io, Node.js, Google Cloud, and Meta's Seemless M4T.
Challenges we ran into
While building a complex, robust, and amazing chat app presents many difficulties, the most difficult challenge I ran into was integrating my translation API into the messaging stream to make it as seamless and lightning-fast as possible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proudest of my contribution to the connection and empowerment of people. Native Chat is made with the sole intention of giving access to people to their loved ones, friends, or anyone else.
What we learned
Through the development of Native Chat, I learned about the conscious design effort it takes to provide users with the best possible user experience. Not only is it important for Native Chat to help people connect, but it is also important for the user's experience to be inviting and easy-to-use.
