It all began with a question: What IS the spirit of Nashville? In our quest to determine the answer, we realized that we had to experience the beauty of this city with our own eyes. The idea behind this app was that we wanted people to discover what makes Nashville, well, Nashville! Music City, USA! We wanted newcomers to learn what makes this city unique, and we wanted Nashville-folk to rediscover their love for their city. We began with a Pebble front-end to send the user's location to our back-end server, and created a simple API to receive information about the closest location to the user. This location is anything from a museum, park, soda shop, and even Athena herself (well, a statue of her anyway). Establishment dates, trivia, and celebrity influences were some of the fun facts that our app taught us as it pointed out these locations. In an effort to prove our product's effectiveness, we decided to tour Nashville with nothing but our watches and wristbands and shirts, oh my! With our Pebble watches, hunger-bands, and VandyHacks pride, we discovered the true spirit of Nashville.
