Inspiration
A NAS is the one thing in a home or small team that is always on and that every device, person and AI agent already shares. Once several Uliya sessions, scheduled skills and people start touching the same folders, nothing tells any of them that someone else is halfway through a job in there. Distributed systems solved this decades ago with lease files; the NAS already has every primitive needed to do the same.
What it does
NAS Work Lease lets a person or agent claim a folder with a visible marker (.uliya-lease/lease.md) recording who, why and until when. Four intents: claim, check, renew, release. Other sessions asking about the folder are told it's leased, by whom and for how long. Stale leases are reported, never silently taken. An adoption guide shows any other skill how to add a one-step lease check before it writes, so coordination grows as more skills follow the convention.
How we built it
Pure orchestration, as the Uliya Skill Development Standard requires: the parent skill only delegates to file-agent, which uses ug-filesystem (stat, ls, cat, mkdir, touch, echo, del). The claim is a create-only mkdir without parents, so two simultaneous claims can't both succeed. Staleness is judged against NAS time. All writes stay behind the platform's gateway approval. The package passes the kit's static checker with zero diagnostics.
Challenges
Skills can't call the CLI directly, so the lock is executed by an expert agent interpreting instructions, and the public catalog lists every action's error codes as unknown. The design is honest about that: the three things that need a real NAS to confirm (already-exists reporting, gateway prompt behaviour, NAS clock) are the finalist test plan.
What's next
Validate on hardware, then publish the lease spec so Skills Hub authors can adopt it, and add a claim step to the kit's own example workflows (photo organising, batch moves) as a reference adoption.
