Inspiration

In my cybersecurity classes and my work as a security officer, I learned that most data exposure is not a break-in. It is something private left in the wrong place. On a home or small office NAS that happens all the time: a W-2 stays in Downloads, a phone photo of a driver license ends up in the shared Family folder, a signed lease sits next to files everyone can open. Nobody checks thousands of files by hand, so I wanted the NAS to check itself.

What it does

NAS Guard checks the folders you name, reads the documents and images there with the NAS's own AI, and flags tax forms, ID scans, bank statements, pay stubs, medical bills and signed contracts. It shows a plain report with the file name, folder, document type and why it was flagged, without ever showing the private numbers inside. After you approve, it tags the files "Sensitive" and moves them into a private folder. It never deletes or overwrites anything.

How I built it

I built it with the UGREEN Uliya Skill Creation Tool. The Skill is a SKILL.md that hands each step to UGREEN's experts: file-agent finds the files, document-agent reads PDFs and office files, photo-agent reads text in images with OCR, and file-agent again tags and moves the approved files. Every write goes through the NAS approval prompt. I used Claude (Anthropic) to help brainstorm the idea, draft the Skill files and check each step against UGREEN's capability catalog.

Challenges

The Skill can only use capabilities that are in UGREEN's catalog, so my first idea, checking the NAS's own security settings, was not possible. I changed it to protecting the files themselves. The official checker is strict too: no scripts, no README, and every delegation state has to be handled. The Skill now passes with 0 errors and 0 warnings.

What I learned

How to design an AI workflow where every step only uses real results from the step before, and how to keep privacy rules in the design from the start, not added at the end.

What's next

If I become a finalist, I will test it on a real UGREEN AI NAS with made-up sensitive documents, check how well OCR reads phone scans, and tune the categories.
