Inspiration

There was a time when I needed to make a presentation for school. When I discovered Microsoft Designer, I managed to finish my work in just 10 minutes and easily edited my document. Since then, I've always been a fan of productivity tools like Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. and I already have a project in mind. Imagine a future where AI empowers you to create documents, build presentations, or take quick notes while browsing the web. You can easily access these documents, presentations, or notes on your mobile phone. With the help of AI, you might even edit entire files with a single click. Just think about how effortless it could be to manage your documents, create presentations, and take notes quickly. Lastly, when I watched the Fireship video, I realized I could participate in this challenge with my product idea. I initially wanted to create this tool for easy, quick note-taking with AI. However, I noticed that there's no Google Keep API support for managing notes.

What it does

When you select and right-click any text on the page (up to 4000 characters), you can manipulate it with Summarize AI. If the text is in a language other than English, Language Detection AI will identify it, allowing you to translate it to English with Language Translate API before summarizing or using the text as is. You can also use the text directly without any manipulation. With the processed text, you can create a new file, also Nano Actions automatically generates a title with the Prompt API while creating document, or add it to the last file created with this extension.

How we built it

This extension is built entirely with JavaScript, CSS, Gemini Nano Built-in APIs, and Google Workspace APIs via Google Cloud.

Challenges we ran into

This is my first time creating an extension for any browser. Initially, I struggled to understand Google Chrome's working logic, especially the messaging system. However, once I got the hang of it, it started to feel easier. On the AI side, everything is straightforward and easy to use. Although I'm not very skilled with front-end tasks, I did my best with the notification design using CSS. But adding animations, has been a bit challenging for me.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We can work with almost all text in runtime. There is no specific site to work with you can use and manipulate any runtime text for creating or editing document.

What we learned

I've learned a lot about the inner workings of Google Chrome. This experience has been invaluable in understanding how the browser functions, particularly its messaging system.

What's next for Nano Actions

I aim to integrate support for Google Presentations and, should future updates allow for the management of Keep notes, I plan to incorporate this feature into Nano Actions as well. Additionally, if Google Chrome introduces support for mobile extensions, I intend to include this capability in the mobile version too. I also aim to make the design more accessible and user-friendly. Imagine creating a presentation simply by right-clicking any text. Then, when you open the presentation with mobile phone or directly website of google slides, the design is automatically prepared with just one click. I believe that in the future, we'll be able to achieve these kinds of advancements.
