Name Generator for Trans Folks

Inspiration

We wanted to make something easy because we don't have a lot of experience with Python, but we also wanted to make something that highlighted the theme of diversity and inclusivity.

What it does

This is a name generator for trans people or anybody in general who may be looking to change their name. You input in your current name, as well as specify which gender name you prefer, and the generator will give out several options that are similar to your current name. There is an option to shuffle the names as many times as you want, and you can also specify which letters you want your name to start.

How we built it

We built it using Python and an API called List of Names Dataset from Back4App.

Challenges we ran into

We didn't have a lot of Python experience before starting the project so we didn't really know what to do or how to approach this project. We got a lot of help from the mentors, and learned what an API is.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Lots of things!! We learned so many new things today.

What an API is, how to use it, and how to filter data from it. Learned a lot about programming in general along the way (and how to search for problems on Google).
