Inspiration People in Nigeria lose money and stress to recurring bills (rent, DSTV, MTN, generator fuel) and sudden FX swings. Spreadsheets don’t watch you for you.
What it does Naira Pulse is a background money agent. It tracks recurring bills, your NGN cash buffer, and USD/NGN FX, and only pings when a real decision is needed (top up, skip a bill, move money). Quiet when you’re fine.
How we built it Python + AWS Strands Agents SDK custom tools (bills store, cash-buffer check, FX, alert policy), JSON persistence, and an Amazon Bedrock AgentCore entrypoint. DEMO_MODE runs without AWS so anyone can try it.
Challenges we ran into Designing “only interrupt on decisions,” making a solid offline demo path, and shipping a complete Everyday Agents submission under the deadline.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A working Everyday Agents build with Strands tools, offline DEMO_MODE (quiet vs alert runs), tests, MIT license, and AgentCore-ready entrypoint — shipped to a public repo before the deadline.
What we learned
Background agents should stay quiet by default. Offline demos matter for judges. Strands custom tools + a clear alert policy beat a chat-only demo.
What's next for Naira pulse
Live FX, more Nigerian bill types, AgentCore deploy, and a short demo video.
