Inspiration

A lot of nail salon owners are Southeast Asians who speak little English. They are also often understaffed and too busy to pick up new customer calls while helping in-store customers with their hands full. To automate the appointment booking workflow of live incoming calls, we created, NailedIt.ai.

What it does

NailedIt.ai is an AI voice receptionist for Southeast Asian (ie. Vietnamnese) nail salon owners who require language translation and automated appointment booking on live incoming customer calls.

How we built it

TanStack Start Prisma with SQLite ElevenLabs Valsea API React

Challenges we ran into

Integrating the Valsea API into the end-to-end workflow of the Voice AI receptionist web app because it is a new tool to us.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We built a working end-to-end AI voice receptionist capable of answering live incoming calls, handling customer conversations, translating between English and Vietnamese, and supporting appointment booking workflows.
  • We tackled a real-world pain point faced by many immigrant small business owners who lose revenue simply because they cannot answer the phone while serving customers in-store.
  • We successfully integrated multiple technologies — voice AI, real-time conversational workflows, scheduling logic, and a modern web stack — into a cohesive user experience within a hackathon timeframe.

What we learned

We gained hands-on experience rapidly learning unfamiliar tools and shipping under pressure, particularly around integrating the Valsea API into a production-like workflow.

What's next for NailedIt.ai

This Voice AI agent can be scalable and expanded for use at other small businesses that requirement appointment booking such as hair salons and massage parlours.
