Inspiration

The flash floods that struck the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra from late November to December 2025 represent one of the most severe natural disasters in Indonesia in recent years. The event affected millions of residents across the three provinces, including rural communities and downstream river settlements that lost family members, homes, and access to basic services. According to data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of December 11, 2025, a total of 990 people were reported dead, 225 missing, 5,100 injured, and more than 157,900 houses damaged. In addition, 1,200 public facilities, 219 health facilities, 581 educational facilities, 434 houses of worship, 290 office buildings, and 498 bridges were damaged, with a total of 52 cities affected.
