Inspiration
The inspiration came from my own spiritual journey. I wanted a simple way to do Naam Jap digitally without distractions and also a place to read Hindu stories with timeless morals. Most apps in this space are either cluttered, full of ads, or not respectful of tradition. So, I set out to build something minimal, peaceful, and free—tailored for the iOS community.
How I Built It
- Platform: Flutter, deployed natively for iOS.
- Storage: Hive database for streaks, counters, and logs.
- UI Design: Calm minimal black and white design, duotone icons, rounded cards for a clutter-free and meditative experience.
- Stories Model: Reusable JSON model for Hindu stories, so new content can be added easily without touching core code.
Challenges We Faced
- Designing a spiritual app that feels modern yet respectful.
- Striking the right balance between simplicity and meaningful features.
- Ensuring stories remain unique, verified, and non-repetitive.
- Optimizing performance and local storage for seamless iOS experience.
Accomplishments
- Published live app on the App Store.
- Naam Jap Counter: 100% free, feature-rich, built for the community.
- Hindu Stories: A growing collection of short stories in a clean, modern interface.
What I Learned
- Community-first approach matters: even small tools bring joy when they connect with people’s beliefs.
- Minimalism > Complexity: the calmer the design, the better the spiritual focus.
- Reusable code models save time: JSON-based story system will be the backbone for multiple apps.
- Staying consistent—even with a busy schedule—leads to shipping real products.
What’s Next
- Naam Jap Counter: Widgets, advanced stats, group Jap features, and iCloud sync.
- Hindu Stories: More stories, search + categories, and possible audio mode.
✨ Radhe Radhe! Keep doing Naam Jap and stay connected to our roots.
