Inspiration

A teammate of ours used to live in Southern California and once had to evacuate their home because of wildfires. They were lucky to return safely, but it left them wanting a better way for residents to tell fire departments they need help. Wildfire Rescue Queue is that idea: one opt-in button for residents, and a live, ranked view for responders.

What it does

People who can't get out on their own ask for help with one tap, and ResQueue ranks them for fire crews by who the fire will reach first, not who called first.

How we built it

Four Fetch.ai agents (fire, news, residents' reports and a commander) coordinate through one live SpacetimeDB database behind our React app, plus a PyTorch model trained on real fire maps to predict where fires spread.

Challenges we ran into

Keeping the line fair: anyone can type "fire behind my house," so a claim only moves someone up if their photo or video backs it up and it matches the fire model.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Four agents and three screens share one live state, and the database itself enforces the rules that protect people, from commander overrides to deleting your location once you're safe.

What we learned

Predicting the fire and deciding who to save are separate problems, so AI forecasts the fire while a clear rule a commander can check does the ranking.

What's next for ResQueue

Next we'll add real road maps and texting for people without smartphones, then run a practice drill with a local fire department.
