Inspiration
Our inspiration for creating this web application is to develop a fitness app that tracks macros digitally, as we found that most fitness apps are plagued by numerous pop-up ads and block users through paywalls.
What it does
This application tracks macros, such as calories, protein, carbohydrates, etc., through user input. It also provides the user with their caloric intake based on goals and the user's health.
How we built it
To build the application, we first created a mockup of each page on Canva. Then we used Claude to generate a page with Next.js that represented that page from Canva. Using what Claude gave us, we routed each page to each other. We then used Supabase as our authentication system for logins and the database. We also implemented the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) API to access a database to give the user many options of foods to log. Lastly, we used Vercel to deploy the web application.
Challenges we ran into
This is everyone's first hackathon, so we ran into a few challenges. These challenges include figuring out the right database to use because we were struggling to find a way to structure the data so that it won't conflict with each other. We also struggled briefly with making a proper user interface and routing the pages to each other.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
There are a few accomplishments that we are proud of, such as setting up an account with a username and password to remember each individual's goals. Users can input the macros from their food by searching up the food name or inputting the macros themself manually.
What we learned
Since this was our first hackathon, we learned a lot. Just a few of these things include: using Supabase as a database to store user information and accounts; accessing USDA's FoodData Central API with JavaScript to give the user the ability to select from thousands of foods; and finally, how to deploy the website with Vercel.
What's next for ThriveFit
In the future, we aim to make a way to implement barcode scanning, making it easier for users to input their macros. We also want to provide an in-depth workout routine and meal plan based on the user's exercise goals and calorie intake.
