Inspiration

As we brainstormed potential app ideas for the theme, First Responder Systems, we thought about the concept of faking a pizza order to contact 911. We realized that while the premise was genius, the current implementation was still very unsafe. In an effort to solve some of its issues, N.11 Pizza was born!

What it does

N.11 is an application that poses as an ordinary pizza delivery app from a “local pizza place.” However, with a simple double tap on the logo, it turns into a live 911 hotline! The 911 operator can see all user responses through a separate webpage, updated in real time.

This allows those in need to contact 911 with more ease. If their abuser inquires, they can show them the app–they can even play around with it!

How we built it

Design

We built all of design in Figma, choosing it for it's developer mode which allows users to quicky convert elements into HTML & CSS code.

Code

All components are built using a mixture of HTML, CSS, Svelte, Tailwind, Electron, Vite, and JavaScript. Our webpage is then posted to the internet using GitHub Pages.

Challenges we ran into

None of our team has ever built a website before! Apart from GitHub pages and minimal experience in HTML & CSS, nobody in our group has ever used any of the above programs. So, for this app, we were constantly learning how to build even the simplest of components. However, once we got the simple components down, formatting the rest of the app went smoothly.
