Inspiration

MyWeekend was created to provide users with interesting and consistent itinerary plans when they suffer from a lack of creativity.

What it does

MyWeekend allows users to generate personalized itineraries based on their chosen location, personal interests, budget, and the size of their group. With the use of ChatGPT and other helper APIs, it takes the request and provides several activities that are curated the user's request. The user is then able to select these potential activities to build their personalized itinerary.

How we built it

The MERN stack, consisting of MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js, offers a seamless full-stack JavaScript environment for efficient web development. React.js enables dynamic user interfaces, while Node.js ensures scalability for real-time applications. Express.js simplifies API development, and MongoDB provides flexible data storage. On top of this, we used the Google Maps API to get geolocation and place data to help take full advantage of Google Cloud.

Challenges we ran into

Our team encountered challenges in the form of server issues with node.js, and we were understanding how to use react.js, which slowed down our development. Regardless of our shortcomings, we have kept finding solutions and pushing forward to prototype our idea.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team is proud of our ability to create and deliver a full-stack application that utilizes Artificial Intelligence within its user interactions. We're also proud of our backend work and separate client module, which made it easy to deploy our application on Google Cloud Compute Engine, and allowed us to host it on the internet. Given the time constraints and experience, we were able to create something we were proud of.

What we learned

Full-stack development requires a lot of time and patience in order to create something consistent and beautiful. Although react.js and node.js were unfamiliar to some of our members, we learned that these development tools were important to speed up the development proces.

What's next for MyWeekend

Our team is planning to keep improving the app with every iteration and resolving issues that we may encounter. We hope to finish features that we didn't get time to implement, such as using AI and various other APIs to find the cheapest plane and attraction tickets, or even scheduling international trips.
