💡 Inspiration
In the era of AI-assisted engineering and autonomous agent coding, traditional developer time-tracking breaks down:
- The Efficiency Paradox: Simply counting keystrokes or IDE active time unfairly penalizes engineers who leverage AI agents to deliver solutions in minutes.
- Multi-Channel Concurrency: Background agents, automated test suites, and compilations run simultaneously while developers conduct code reviews or requirement syncs. Single-threaded timers completely fail to reflect real parallel effort.
- The "Zero-Commit" Dilemma: Crucial architecture design and technical consulting produce zero git commits, leaving no verifiable audit trail.
- Contract Man-Day Billing: Commercial clients and consultants settle work based on "Man-Days" (人天). Developers need a privacy-preserving, transparent rules engine to turn effort into compliant billing milestones.
🚀 What MythManDay Does
MythManDay (人天神话) is a local-first, multi-channel time tracking and contract billing platform:
- Multi-Channel Concurrent Tracking: Accurately tracks parallel tasks across different client workspaces without double-counting physical wall-clock time.
- Rules & Commercial Billing Engine: Automatically calculates standard man-days, overtime weighting, minimum billing blocks, and threshold rounding.
- Audit-Ready Audit Trail: Keeps raw elapsed duration strictly intact while computing invoiceable amounts with full mathematical traceability.
- Local-First & Complete Privacy: All client data, rate sheets, and session logs stay strictly on the developer's local machine with zero unconfigured remote exposure.
🛠️ Architecture & Technical Implementation
- Core Engine (
myth-core): Pure, high-performance Rust implementing concurrent state machines and commercial billing calculation algorithms. - Persistence (
myth-db): Embedded SQLite for zero-latency, local-first storage. - Cross-Platform Desktop Shell: Built with Tauri 2.0 for a lightweight (<50MB memory) native desktop experience across Linux, macOS, and Windows.
- Frontend UI: React 19, Vite, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui components.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Clean architectural separation between raw physical elapsed time and contract billing projections.
- Rock-solid local-first architecture ensuring sensitive client billing data never leaks.
- Production-ready packaging (
.deb, AppImage, Windows MSI) with full CI/CD test automation.
🔮 What's next
- Direct integration with Model Context Protocol (MCP) to allow coding agents to report and audit execution checkpoints directly into MythManDay.
- Open-weights LLM inference via Nebius Token Factory for automated work-log summarization and invoice drafting.
