Mystro

Inspiration

Mystro was born out of our initiative to provide students and institutions with a powerful tool that can revolutionize students' performance and parents involvement. As college mentors/professors, we always work towards developing resources to better assist schools and students. Therefore, we initiated and constructed a system that reflects both of our experiences as mentors/professors and the needs that thousands of students have. We are convinced that there are many factors that affect student performance that go beyond academics. For this reason our system does not conform to the success of few but rather continues to evolve to become as personalized as needed to guarantee the success of each and every student!

How it works

*Eliminates blind tutoring: Know with precision the students' weaknesses to target those specific areas and ultimately master common core standards. *Mystro offers full detailed student reports that allows continuous monitoring on students' progress. All data is recorded and used as reference to demonstrate growth. *Encouraging the community to collaborate together by providing full recurring reports on students' progress to their parents in the language of their choice. In addition, parents and professors can send messages back and forth in their native languages and our app will translate the message to the chosen language of the recipient. Our app support 50+ languages. *School-based agenda that helps students be on top of their assignments. Provides upcoming tests, deadlines, and events notifications. Facilitates time management for students. *Discussion boards and direct messaging available to facilitate communication between instructors, students, and parents. *Different resources that allows instructors to develop and upload videos, worksheets and online activities. *Reliable predictions based on students' progress that allows instructors and students to foresee success or failure. *Outstanding student achievement is compensated with recognition by their instructors and scholarship opportunities.

Challenges I ran into

At first we expected to integrate many API's (Azure, Moxtra, Wolfram Alpha, IBM Watson) but due to time constraints we were unable to integrate all of them. Creating and consuming a Mobile Service API hosted on Windows Azure was new to us, so we needed to read the documentation throughly to create our app.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Our greatest accomplishment was the development of a functional app that has a great potential in education. Though hard work, we were able to implement different functionalities into a one single and useful app, Mystro.

What I learned

Our main learning outcome was the ability to work with Microsoft Azure, Xamarin, and how to implement Moxtra, and Wolfram alpha to improve our app in the future. In addition, we learned that having the access to API's is essential to a faster development of apps because they provide the tools that can make your ideas come true.

What's next for Mystro

We want to continue working on this project to implement as many tools needed to help students succeed in their educational goals. Our vision for this project is to get professors, parents, and students connected. In the early stage of this app, we want to focus on elementary school, middle school, and high school students, but our ultimate goal is to impact education at all levels.
