Inspiration

We were inspired by the timeless charm of alchemy, escape rooms, and the cozy mystery of magical spaces. We asked: What if potion-making felt like a satisfying, short-form puzzle adventure? From that Alchemist's Mix was born—a game that combines immersive storytelling, magical visuals, and quick, rewarding gameplay for both mobile and VR users.

What it does

Alchemist's Mix is a short puzzle game where players enter an alchemist’s house and choose one of three potions to craft—Levitation, Fire, or Insight. Each potion requires solving three simple, environment-based puzzles to uncover its ingredients. Once all are found, players mix their potions and experience a magical effect. The game includes a reward system with XP, levels, badges, and satisfying unlock moments.

How I built it

We designed the environment first an alchemist’s house full of interactive props like scrolls, candles, books, and chests. Using simple puzzle logic (e.g., tap in order, symbol match, object search), we created 9 puzzles across 3 potion paths. We focused on making the game intuitive for mobile and immersive for VR, with minimal UI clutter and satisfying visual effects. We layered in an XP system, potion-specific animations, and a clean progression loop.

Challenges I ran into

One key challenge was balancing simplicity and depth. We wanted the puzzles to feel clever but not time-consuming. We also needed to design mechanics that worked equally well on mobile and in VR requiring careful consideration of UI layout, interaction types, and scene visibility. Ensuring a smooth, replayable experience in short sessions took multiple design iterations.

Accomplishments I’m proud of

We’re proud of creating an entire puzzle game that feels rich, magical, and complete all within a small, single-scene environment. The progression feels rewarding without being overwhelming. We also love how well the puzzle logic flows players can intuitively solve each challenge without needing instructions, purely through visual and thematic clues.

What I learned

We learned the importance of designing for feel how short feedback loops, light-based cues, and ambient effects can elevate even simple mechanics. We also saw firsthand how essential it is to test for mobile comfort early, especially when integrating VR features. Lastly, we learned to tell a story through the environment alone, without needing dialogue or text-heavy tutorials.

What’s next for Alchemist'sMix

We plan to expand Alchemist's Mix with seasonal potions, more puzzle types, and global challenges. A daily brew mode, new alchemy titles, and cosmetic unlocks are already in the works. We're also exploring shareable replay clips and additional potion effects that turn each completed session into a magical moment worth sharing. The goal: keep the sessions short, the magic satisfying, and the players coming back to mix just one more.
