Inspiration
My inspiration for the Selah note-taking app comes from frustration I had with documenting sermons at church, First it was the notebook that can easily fill up or even go missing, but the most difficult part is going back to the notes, so I needed a way to solve these issues to organise my notes, and have AI take the notes for me without being distracted.
What it does
Selah note-taking app allows users (Christians) to record sermons, and AI converts the records into a structured sermon note, with a dedicated notion like sermon blocks. It also allows you share your notes to friends in the socials feature of the app, which allows you connect with other Christians. Selah note taking app also allows you to read the bible together with friends live while on a group call, and the bible synchronizes live. Another important part of Selah note-taking is the bible, users can use AI to explain verse (s) or even the chapter, and they can read commentaries, see strongs definition, and even study characters seperately.
How we built it
Selah note taking app is built with claude code using react native, cloudflare was used for storage and admin website hosting.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we ran into earlier was users not able to sign in after being approved by google. The problem was from our resend configuration in supabase, but thankfully we were able to fix that.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We quickly reached 50 downloads in less than a week with one paying user which was interesting.
What we learned
What we learn is that choosing the right tech stack matters, at one point we were using the cloudflare ai whisper for audio transcription, but had to switch to a better transcription model of assembly AI with a deepgram fallback.
What's next for Selah
We will continue to upgrade and maintain the app, and the most important next thing is distributing to users for proper usage.
