Inspiration
We're not just dreamers, we're doers.
The people behind Mysa Cities have individually and as a team been delivering code and real estate project documents for over 10 years.
In parallel with regular operations, our team has been working on innovative technological solutions for the real estate market — we believe if you don't innovate, you die.
Lately we've been working on a project that bridges real-world real estate and decentralized finance...
But there's a problem with a blockchain real estate project by itself: it's boring... it lacks appeal...
So for the last few months, we've played around with the idea of creating a simulated real estate world which acts as a "UI" for our real estate-blockchain bridge...
This hackathon was the spark that motivated us to actually start building that simulated world and put our idea in motion.
What it does
Mysa Cities simulates the real estate market.
You can navigate, analyze, and trade virtual properties (i.e. NFTs) with an intuitive interface. An interface not unlike one you would find in a video game or mobile app.
Our vision is to one day translate this simulation to the real world. Mysa Cities will not just be a simulated world, but it will mirror the real world, where people own and trade properties using NFTs and smart contracts.
How we built it
We built this project by writing javascript and solidity code until the late hours of many nights, by calling in favors so we could talk with qualified experts in technologies like GIS... and by drinking lots of coffee. LOTS of coffee.
Challenges we ran into
Creating a UI
Our strong suit is backend development, so we really had to pull up our bootstraps to slap together a usable UI for Mysa Cities (and it didn't turn out half bad, if we do say so ourselves).
Combining a large variety of Web 2 and 3 technologies into one solid MVP
We have a feeling the phrases "React", "Hedera", "3D graphics", "GIS", and "AWS" aren't used in the same context very often... not outside our office this past month, anyway. It took a lot of critical thinking, tweaking, and testing to make all of them play together nicely.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our NFTs use objective metadata
Our NFTs stay true to the roots of decentralized data ownership. The properties you can own in Mysa Cities are defined by a coordinate system, and the bounding coordinates of every property in Mysa Cities are included in our NFTs. When you own a Mysa Cities NFT, you have proof that you own a specific area of land, just like with land in the real world.
We built an interface for the blockchain world
Blockchain technology is all over the news, but it's still hard for many people to visualize what it actually does or how it works. There are many great platforms growing today that are helping people understand and explore the DeFi space, and we will stand proudly among them. Gamifying the NFT trading experience is, in our opinion, one of the best ways to bring attention to and popularize the power of this and its associated technologies.
Seamless UX
Thanks to the functionalities provided by Hedera (which are hard to come by in many other blockchain projects, so kudos) we've created a seamless experience for our users, without compromising on security. Things like connecting your wallet are a breeze, and we plan to streamline our user system even more.
Mobile-friendly
As we all know, the world is heading in the mobile-first direction... we're proud that we have created an app that works well both on desktop and mobile.
Connecting so many different technologies in so little time
As we mentioned in the section about challenges, we managed to bring together many different technologies: 3D graphics, blockchain, cloud services, maps, etc... many of which we have never dealt with before, and we exceed our own expectations.
What we learned
Besides patience, we learned:
- how to use Hedera's libraries (Hethers, SDK) and how they work with the new EVM
- how to use GIS (Geographic Information System) data
- it is possible to build a fully-decentralized marketplace with Hedera EVM
What's next for Mysa Cities
There's so much we have planned for Mysa Cities that we couldn't fit in for the Hackathon.
- more features for land, buildings, upgrades, etc...
- the function of renting out properties...
- brining institutional players into the game that will support our virtual world with real world real estate...
- as mentioned, slowly transitioning the mechanisms in the simulated world to mirror the real world...
- public beta...
- more cities...
