Inspiration
Through a student body survey, we identified a common challenge: easy access to meals. Many students struggle with finding recipes based on available ingredients. This insight led us to explore a technical solution to make meal planning more convenient and accessible.
What it does
MyPantry helps users make the most of what they have in their kitchen. By entering available ingredients, users receive personalized recipe suggestions. Additionally, they can explore a dynamic home feed filled with new and trending recipes for inspiration.
How we built it
We developed MyPantry using React Native, leveraging its cross-platform capabilities to create a seamless user experience. Our team collaborated using Visual Studio Code for development and debugging, while GitHub was essential for version control, allowing us to efficiently manage code changes and work together seamlessly.
Challenges we ran into
Getting started was one of our biggest hurdles. Setting up the development environment and getting familiar with React Native syntax took time, but through persistence and teamwork, we overcame these challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of building a fully functional app from scratch! Seeing our idea come to life and knowing it can help others makes all the effort worthwhile.
What we learned
Throughout this project, we gained valuable experience in React Native development, problem-solving, and working as a cross-functional team. We also learned the importance of adaptability when facing technical roadblocks.
What's next for MyPantry
To enhance MyPantry’s capabilities, we plan to integrate a robust recipe database and implement machine learning to offer even more accurate and diverse recipe recommendations. Our goal is to make meal planning smarter and even more personalized.
