MyPage

Inspiration

The frustration of juggling multiple tabs during job searches inspired us to create MyPage. We wanted to streamline this process, delivering the content users need in an instant. Our goal is to provide a competitive edge to aspiring software engineers by offering a consolidated, efficient platform tailored to their job search needs.

What It Does

MyPage is a cutting-edge reporting medium that aggregates and displays relevant job information. It scrapes data from various job boards and presents it on a custom dashboard. The primary feature is a job board that showcases postings from the past 24 hours, providing users with a quick snapshot of the latest opportunities. Unlike Google Bookmarks, MyPage allows users to scroll through and visualize content, making it highly user-friendly.

How We Built It

• MyPage: Developed using the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js) with TypeScript and Python for data gathering.
• Landing Page: Built with React and deployed on Vercel, ensuring fast and reliable performance.

Challenges We Ran Into

1. Backend Deployment: Connecting our backends to the frontends was a significant challenge, requiring multiple iterations and problem-solving sessions.
2. Data Gathering: The process of collecting data was arduous due to restrictions and the complexity of scraping laterally from various sources.
3. Workspace Issues: Our team faced logistical challenges, including being forced to migrate multiple times and even getting kicked out of a Starbucks. Despite these hurdles, we remained resilient and adaptive.

Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of

1. Landing Page Launch: Successfully launching our landing page and integrating a pivot to a Mailchimp hyperlink button instead of a traditional email input form.
2. Community Engagement: Sharing our project across various platforms such as Reddit, Slack, and community forums, leading to significant traction and interest.
3. Waitlist Success: Collecting over 100 entrants to our waitlist, demonstrating the demand and interest in our solution.

What We Learned

• The importance of having a solid backend plan from the start.
• Effective communication and collaboration are key to overcoming unexpected challenges.

What’s Next for MyPage

1. Next.js Migration: Transitioning to Next.js for easier deployment and server-side rendering.
2. Cloud Services Integration: Utilizing AWS for more secure account creation and data management.
3. Investor Outreach: Seeking out investors and collaborators to help scale and enhance our platform further.

Customer Feedback and Validation

• Interviews and Surveys: Users initially compared MyPage to Google Bookmarks. However, feedback highlighted its superior user experience, allowing users to scroll through and visualize content easily.
• User Experience Enhancements: Based on feedback, we implemented a pop-up feature on MyPage when clicking on web tiles, significantly enhancing user interaction.

Business Model

• Freemium SaaS: We plan to sustain MyPage through a freemium model, offering basic services for free while providing premium features through subscriptions.
• Revenue Streams: In addition to subscriptions, revenue will be generated from ads and company-specific job boards, ensuring a sustainable business model.
