Inspiration

During the brainstorming process, which we spent about 3 hours to, we kept stating some minor problems which if solved would make any student's life slightly better. What we noticed is that all the problems have one thing in common - a problem that we have been facing every day since the start of our freshman year on campus. The issue is that all the services that NYUAD provide us with are hosted on completely different webpages, so in order to access some relevant information we are pushed to login every time into 4-5 different websites separately: "mealplans" for finance management (mealswipes, campus aed, etc), "students.nyuad.nyu.edu" for event, news, notification announcements, "brightspace" to check what assignments are planed, "nyuad.dserec.com" to sign up for a gym, and many other google forms to sign up for a bike share, tech loan, room reservation and etc. Therefore, we decided to develop a superapp "myNYUAD".

What it does

myNYUAD is an IOS mobile application which makes the campus more accessible and using all the facilities more convenient. It has main functions of "Announcements and News release", "Finance Management", "Assignment Deadlines Traction" and AR module, which makes everything starting from flyers to art exhibits interactive.

How we built it

We listed out all the problems that our app should solve and wrote down all the functionalities it should have. Then, classifying them into specific groups, we divided the responsibilities to write the Frontend, Backend, IOS app, but yet work together.

Challenges we ran into

  • Neither of us have had any experience of writing a mobile application, so it made us be more creative to solve the problem within the little time frame we were given.
  • Fetching Data

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating an entire superapp in one night, collaborative work

What we learned

How to be flexible and solve the given problem with "what you have in your hands"

What's next for myNYUAD

  • Solving a major Laundry problem
  • Integrating all microservices into the app
  • Partner with an university for API's
  • Write an Android compatible app
