About the Project – MyNutriMate

Inspiration

Managing diet and medicine is a daily struggle for older people and those with chronic illnesses.
Many can’t read complex nutrition labels, don’t know if a food or medicine is safe for their condition, and often have no quick way to check with a doctor.
We wanted to build a single, simple tool that removes this guesswork — keeping people healthier, safer, and more confident in their daily choices.

What it does

MyNutriMate is your personal food & medicine safety assistant:

  • Personalized Safety Checks – Instantly tells if a food or medicine is Safe, Caution, or Avoid based on your medical profile.
  • Label Reader & Unlabeled Food Check – Understand any food, whether it has a label or not, in clear, simple terms.
  • Medicine Scanner – Identify medicines, learn their uses, and check if they’re safe for your condition.
  • Condition & Medicine Alerts – Warns you if a food conflicts with your health condition or prescribed medications.
  • Doctor–Patient Connection – Unique patient code links you to your doctor so they can update your diet plan and monitor compliance.
  • Doctor-Curated Safe Food List – A personalized “safe to eat” list tailored to your medical needs.
  • Medical File Vault – Secure storage for prescriptions, lab results, and health records, accessible to both patient and doctor.
  • Calorie & Nutrition Goals – Suggests daily targets based on age, BMI, and activity level.
  • Activity Suggestions – Gentle physical activity tips for better overall well-being.
  • Multilingual Support – Available in Hindi, Malayalam, and more.
  • Dark & Light Mode – Theme customization for readability and reduced eye strain.
  • Senior-Friendly UI – Large fonts, high contrast, and simplified navigation.

How we built it

We used:

  • Vite JS for a cross-platform mobile application with a responsive, senior-friendly UI.
  • Supabase for authentication, data storage, and real-time doctor–patient syncing.
  • Custom-trained AI Models for food label reading, medicine recognition, and personalized health recommendations.
  • Secure Cloud Storage for medical files and prescription data.
  • Multi-language Support using localization packages to make the app accessible to all.

Challenges we ran into

  • Designing a UI that works for seniors — balancing simplicity with rich functionality.
  • Training AI models to accurately detect both labeled and unlabeled food items.
  • Implementing real-time doctor–patient updates without data security risks.
  • Building multilingual support while keeping the interface clean.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Created an end-to-end solution that covers food safety, medicine checks, and doctor collaboration in one app.
  • Successfully integrated AI-powered food and medicine recognition with personalized alerts.
  • Made the app truly accessible to seniors with language, theme, and UI design choices.
  • Built a system where doctors can directly influence patient diet safety remotely.

What we learned

  • Designing for older adults requires radically simplified workflows and clear visual hierarchy.
  • AI-based health solutions need real-world personalization to be genuinely useful.
  • Medical data handling demands serious security and compliance planning.

What's next for MyNutriMate

  • Expand to more languages and add voice-based interaction for low-literacy users.
  • Integrate with wearables and health tracking devices for real-time monitoring.
  • Partner with hospitals and clinics for large-scale deployments.
  • Add offline mode for rural areas with poor internet connectivity.
