Programmers with Experience
Inspiration
It all started with a walk through a quiet neighborhood. We saw elderly residents struggling to get information, small local businesses barely visible online, and newcomers unsure of where to find essential services. It hit us — what if a single app could solve all these hyperlocal problems?
We envisioned a digital companion that speaks your language, listens to your needs, and connects your community — and that's how MyNeighbourHub was born.
What it does
Imagine an assistant who knows your neighborhood like the back of their hand — that’s NeighbourBot 🤖, the heart of MyNeighbourHub.
This smart AI chatbot is more than just a digital concierge. It helps you:
- Discover nearby tailoring shops or electricians when you're in need.
- Know your garbage collection schedule or file a missed pickup report.
- Stay updated on community events or festivals happening in your block.
- Easily access emergency contacts — from fire stations to 24/7 clinics.
- Promote your home-run business so neighbors can find and support you.
- Talk or type in your native language, whether it's English, Tamil, or Hindi.
- And if you’re an elderly resident? Just use your voice — the app will listen, respond, and help.
It's inclusive, intelligent, and incredibly local.
How we built it
We stitched together several powerful technologies to bring this experience to life:
- Flutter / React Native to design a sleek, responsive mobile interface.
- Node.js + Firebase for real-time data storage and secure user auth.
- Dialogflow to train NeighbourBot with local queries and fallback handling.
- Web Speech API for hands-free voice input and Text-to-Speech output.
- Google Cloud Translation API to break the language barrier effortlessly.
- Firestore for storing dynamic content like service providers, events, and complaints.
Every piece was chosen to ensure speed, scalability, and simplicity.
Challenges we ran into
We knew this wouldn’t be easy.
- How do we make the app elderly-friendly without overwhelming them?
- Could the bot understand someone asking “Where’s the tailor?” in 3 different languages?
- How would we respond when the data wasn’t available yet?
We learned that great tech isn't just about features — it’s about empathy in design. Every voice, every click, every unanswered question taught us how to make it better.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We built a multilingual assistant that actually understands people — no matter how they talk.
- We enabled elders to use voice instead of text — turning technology into a friend, not a barrier.
- We created space for local vendors to thrive in their own communities.
- We proved that a chatbot can do more than answer questions — it can build trust in neighborhoods.
What we learned
- Accessibility is inclusion — the moment you support a voice, a language, or a need, you gain a new user.
- APIs are powerful, but it’s how you combine them that creates real magic.
- Community isn’t built on tech — it’s built on listening to what neighbors need and delivering that, beautifully.
What's next for MyNeighbourHub
We’re just getting started.
Here’s what’s coming up:
- A QR-code based login system so users can sign in securely with house verification.
- A full-fledged admin dashboard for housing societies to manage services & complaints.
- Integration with IoT devices for live water/power updates.
- A rollout in real communities, starting with gated societies to test the impact.
- More Indian languages supported — Telugu, Marathi, Kannada, and beyond.
Because MyNeighbourHub isn’t just an app — it’s the future of connected living.
