Inspiration
Mind mapping has become a popular activity towards goal planning and manifestation. Likewise, immersive technologies, like mixed reality (MR), are becoming more adopted across all spectrums of day-to-day life. We wanted to combine these two concepts and bring mind mapping from traditional flat screens to the sense encompassing paradigm of immersive technology.
What it does
Mynd Reality is a mixed reality application designed to bring individuals into their mind maps. Using a combination of 3D writing, 3D object generation, and virtual environment manipulation, we give users the ability to create an individualized reality based on their personal aspirations. There are two experiences with Mynd: Mynd Maps and Head Spaces. Mynd Maps are immersive mind maps that give users the ability to free write and draw in 3D and manipulate their virtual environment. Head Spaces are curated experiences designed to take the onus off the user to let them focus on being in their own head space.
How we built it
Mynd Reality was built using StereoKit and C#. A link to our GitHub is available on our submission. Please request access.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we ran into was that we did not own a HoloLens 1 or 2, so development had to take place using the Emulator. We do have Oculus Quest 2 headsets, so we were able to use Oculus Link to run our StereoKit prototype. Another challenge was that we couldn’t take advantage of hand-tracking using the Oculus Link for development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of what we were able to accomplish giving a new technology and limited amount of time.
What we learned
We mainly learned a lot about StereoKit programming. StereoKit is a very well-made open source library and the learning curve was not that steep. We are curious to see what features are added in the future.
What's next for Mynd Reality
Expand and improve upon our prototype. We plan to development and work towards an official release
