Inspiration
My main inspiration behind this app was my own personal mental health struggles. Being a student, I had to balance school work (loads and loads of it!), my social life (which was especially hard due to quarantine), and my physical and mental well-being. Often times I found myself ignoring my mental health and not keeping track in order to improve it. It slowly got better after I realized that checking in with myself didn't have to take long. I could keep track of how I was doing daily with short bullet notes on my phone. This served as the basis of my idea for the mynd app.
What it does
The mynd app provides a solution to people with situations similar to mine because it is a daily logging app that can be completed in under 1 minute. This way, users who are on the busy side can still be able to take care of themselves and be aware of how they are doing, to decide their next steps.
How we built it
I built it in Xcode using the Swift language. I used the storyboards to add most of my elements as well as layout my app. I then used the corresponding swift files to code the specific functions I wanted the app to have (ex: saving logs to archive).
Challenges we ran into
I ran into lots of challenges but the most prominent one were coding the "archive" tab to work correctly and working with the storyboards to display the full screen properly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm really proud of how I coded the "archive" tab as I had many trial and error attempts. It was the hardest part about creating this app and I definitely researched and learned a lot from that.
What we learned
I learned how to create an iOS app using Swift and Xcode storyboards, as well as debugging the many errors that I had encountered.
What's next for MYND
I fully plan to continue developing mynd beyond this hackathon. I hope to be able to add more features to help others like me and eventually publish it onto the app store!
